Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway

Running from Auburn to Niagara Falls, the route traces the westward path many freedom seekers followed toward the Canadian border. Auburn anchors the eastern end — Tubman's home for 54 years, her burial site, and location of the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park. She led 70+ people to freedom from this base. The corridor threads through Finger Lakes country (Geneva on Seneca Lake, Lyons), parallels the Erie Canal through Rochester and Lockport, and reaches Buffalo and Niagara Falls before ending near the historic Canadian border crossing. Along the way sit 14 NPS Network to Freedom sites and two National Historic Landmarks.
