Main Oregon Trail Back Country Byway
Travel the route early pioneers took through the Idaho desert. Visit the Three Island Crossing State Park and Visitors Center to see Conestoga wagon replicas and learn of the many challenges that these early emigrants faced and how the Native Americans mastered the rugged Idaho terrain. Make time to visit the other Oregon Trail historic sites along the byway. This route begins at Glenns Ferry about 75 miles southeast of Boise and runs along the foothills parallel to Highway 84 until it reaches the Boise River valley. One-third of the byway is paved, and the other two-thirds is gravel. More from National Scenic Byway Foundation →
