Arkansas Scenic 7 Byway
In 1993, Highway 7 became Arkansas’ first scenic byway and was extended in 1999 to include the highway from the Louisiana state line to Arkadelphia. Beginning in the coastal plain region with its lowland rolling hills and pine forests and river valleys with hardwood forests, the region lends itself as a home for wildlife, historical resources, and outdoor recreation opportunities. The Ouachita Mountains, Arkansas River valley, and Ozark Mountains has been an important corridor served by flatboats, keelboats, steamboats, and the overland stagecoach. The area is particularly beautiful in autumn when the oak-hickory forest turns color and again in the spring when dogwoods, redbuds, and wildflowers bloom.
