Willow City Loop

This is not an official byway but it is fantastic! The narrow two-lane road winds 13 miles through some of the oldest and most unique geology in central Texas, with deep canyons carved by Coal Creek and meadows at the bottom. The road winds through green hills and includes cattle guards, farm gates, and low water crossings, and is just wide enough for two cars to pass if both keep to the side. Spring brings bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush across the hills. No commercial development and minimal traffic signs keep the experience about the land and the road. Go on a weekday.
