M22 Byway

M-22 runs along the Lake Michigan shoreline through northwest Michigan, from Manistee north and around the Leelanau Peninsula to Traverse City. The two-lane road has four scenic pullouts and one major scenic overlook, with lighthouses, campgrounds, and water access throughout. The route's turns and hills put the lake views directly in front of you. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore runs along a long stretch of the route, with sand bluffs rising well above the waterline and more than a hundred hiking trails off the highway. Rand McNally named it one of the top five greatest driving tours in America.
