Sacajawea Historic Byway
This byway is named for Sacajawea, the legendary Agai’dika Shoshone Bannock woman who guided Lewis and Clark Expedition. Visit the Sacajawea Interpretive Cultural & Educational Center to learn more about her and her people. Hike a trail or attend a program about Lewis and Clark. On down the road, watch for the 20-foot high and 20-foot wide “beehives” near Leadore. These “beehives’ are kilns used for creating charcoal used in the processing of silver and gold. The town of Franklin was settled in 1860 by Mormon Pioneers. Many of the senses in the movie “Napoleon Dynamite” were filmed in Franklin and nearby Preston.
