Highway 166 stays wooded for most of its length with the protected Dog River Reservoir roughly in the middle. There used to be a busy town called Campbellton nearby, with a ferry crossing the Chattahoochee. Around 1958 the ferry road was closed and replaced by a bridge. The railroad bypassed Campbellton in favor of Fairburn in 1854.
