Post Rock Scenic Byway

This byway winds through fields, pastures, and prairie. The area’s unique beauty, but largely treeless landscape presented early pioneers with challenges. Quarrying native limestone, stone fences were created by using the limestone slabs. That same resourcefulness is seen in the area’s artists, farmers, and ranchers. This rugged land is home to wildflower, native grasses, and wildlife. At Wilson Lake and Wildlife Area alone, over 225 species of birds are seen in a year’s time. Allow time at the lake to fish, hike, or water ski and check out some of Kansas’ best mountain bike trails. Bring your camera? The boundless sky is great for sunset and sunrise photography.
