Ocmulgee-Piedmont Scenic Byway
This route begins in downtown Gray on Highway 11, travels through many communities to Round Oak-Juliette Road and ends at the Ocmulgee River in Juliette. Highway 11 was formerly a Native American trail and travels through the Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge, home to many species of endangered wildlife. The area has a rich history of pre-historic and historic site of the Creek Indians that lived here in the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1864, during the Civil War, North and South forces met in the Battle of Sunshine Church along this road. In 1991 the film Fried Green Tomatoes was filmed in Juliette.
