Meriwether-Pike Scenic Byway
This byway honors the legacy of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt who often came to the area in the 1920s-1940s in hopes the area’s restorative warms springs would improve his polio-stricken legs. He built a house in Warm Springs, the Little White House, which is now a state historic site. Visitors to the area will also enjoy stops at the Red Oak Covered Bridge, the Oakland Park Baptist Church, and Jones Mill, where only a grist mill and mill pond remain of the once thriving community. If traveling in May and October, plan time for the Cotton Pickin’ Fair and Great Gay Marketplace. More from National Scenic Byway Foundation →
