Route 77 between Guilford and Durham was named to honor Charles Wimler, Sr. who lived along this north/south route for about 90 years. He served as Durham’s First Selectman for 20 years. In 2002, he sold the property development rights of 280 acres to Durham, which abut the 90 acres he had previously sold to the town of Guilford. The area is to be preserved and protected from development in the future and maintained as pastureland for horses and home to wild deer.
