About

The building, constructed around 1770 for James Brown, an African aide to George Washington, has continuously served alcohol since 1817. Its current name was coined in the late 70s by owners Martin Sheridan and Richard “Rip” Hayman, who covered parts of the neon "BAR" sign to avoid landmark review.story
