Wet Horizons
Oct 11

Located in the existing context of the Neutra-designed penthouse—its glazed walls, rooftop reflecting pools, and views of the Silver Lake Reservoir, Wet Horizons, articulates environmental connections between Callejas’ practice and the architecture of the house itself. The installation merges the reading of landscapes from distant geographies with real LA views through veiled textile drawings, digital projections, and models.

What's the vibe

A mid-century modernist masterpiece, the VDL House feels like an experiment in living, with sweeping windows and built-in features creating an expansive feel even within a limited footprint. The architect's intent was to create a sense of calm and quiet, relating design to nature through light and views.ambiance

About

Built by Viennese-American architect Richard Neutra with a no-interest loan from Dutch philanthropist Dr. C.H. Van Der Leeuw, this experimental "glass house" was designed to accommodate his office and two families on a small lot. After a fire, Richard and his son Dion redesigned the main house, applying their learned principles of sun louvers, water roofs, and "nature-near" design.story
