As part of our Cowboy Craft: Traditional Art of the West exhibition, Cary—a National Heritage Fellow and master saddle maker—will share stories about his craft, the traditions of saddle making, and the importance of keeping these skills alive. Schwarz is featured in the Craft in America episode, WEST.
Featuring works by members of the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association, this exhibition includes more than 30 handcrafted pieces showcasing traditional Western craftsmanship, such as finely tooled leather saddles, hand-forged spurs, and intricately braided rawhide works.
Becoming Heirlooms examines the extrafunctional power of craft and art objects, not merely as artifacts, but as tools for gathering, witnessing, and remembrance. The exhibition features new works by Diana Benavidez, Matt Hebert, Michael Hernandez, Soyeon Kim, Christine Lee, Anna Mayer, Kaiya Rainbolt, Phil Rowland, India Thompson, and Georgina Treviño.
