Tapestry: Through the Looking Glass with Richard Parrish

This boot camp like class covers material from both the Tapestry class and the Beyond Tapestry class, allowing for extended explorations of ideas and pattern making. Techniques will be explored and developed as needed to achieve these patterns including multiple firings, cutting and reassembling, slumping, and coldworking and finishing.

Paint, layer, and photograph translucent materials to reflect movement, change, and environmental transformation in this multimedia workshop, creating images that capture fleeting moments and delicate transitions. Led by Teaching Artist-in-Residence Susan Richman, and inspired by works in Modern Women / Modern Vision by Barbara Morgan and Imogen Cunningham, as well as Richman’s own Dissolving Boundaries series that documents the changing environment.

Join us for an in-person three-session seminar on select Mondays—February 2, 9, and 23—inspired by art in the Jewish Museum Collection, led by Nelly Silagy Benedek, Deputy Director, Education & Programs. This class examines the work of several Impressionist painters against the backdrop of the Dreyfus Affair, a political scandal that rocked and divided France beginning in 1894.
