DRYLONGSO

Wednesday, August 12, 20266:00 PM
Afrofuturist art star Cauleen Smith’s UCLA thesis film embeds an incisive look at racial injustice within a lovingly handmade buddy movie-murder mystery-romance. Observing the alarming rate at which the young Black men around her are dying, Oakland art student Pica begins preserving their existence in snapshots, along the way forging a friendship with a gender-nonconforming young woman, and being drawn into the search for a serial killer who is terrorizing the city.

ROSEBUSH PRUNING
Aug 14

Underneath the Catalonian sun, a rich white American family lives in hedonistic isolation, seeking love and validation through one another, their designer wardrobes, and pop music. When an outsider infiltrates the family, buried tensions surface and blood ties are severed. ROSEBUSH PRUNING is an absurd and funny take down of the patriarchal family.

NEIGHBORING SOUNDS
Aug 14·6:00 PM

Set on one block in a rapidly changing Brazilian city, this enthralling episodic story follows an old aristocrat attempting to maintain his hold on a fiefdom increasingly dense with paranoid high-rise-dwelling yuppies. Simmering clashes of class and race escalate with an often-humorous upstairs-downstairs vibe when the neighborhood hires a questionable security firm to protect the block.
