I'm Chris Dowd from the band Fishbone. We got together back in 1979 and started our official touring journey in 1984. LA born and raised! Going back and forth between South Central and the Valley, the music we heard on the radio growing up changed our lives — from Parliament to The Clash, we just threw it all in together. Ska, punk, funk, soul, all at once. Nobody knew what to call it. That's still LA to me, driving these streets and going back and forth between these two incredible stations, with KCRW playing it polished and global and KXLU keeping it raw and weird. Tune in to whichever one you're in the mood for when you hit some of our favorite LA spots. I love them all. 89.9 FM KCRW - https://www.kcrw.com/ 88.9 FM KXLU - https://kxlu.com/ See you May 8th at Teragram Ballroom and May 9th at The Glass House

McConnell's Fine Ice Creams - Downtown Los Angeles

Artisan Ice CreamLos Angeles, CA
Fishbone
Inside the 100-year old Grand Central Market downtown, you might pay a little more, but this is one of those times it’s worth it.  Wander through the market stalls with a double scoop...

Alibi Room

KoreanLos Angeles, CA
Fishbone
One of my favorite chefs and friends, Roy Choi brings his Kogi Truck, Korean Fusion delicacy to Alibi Room.  Kimchi quesadilla remains a winning staple, but the blackjack quesadilla with spicy pork, caramelized onions and salsa verde is the best choice to me… You really can’t go wrong.

Posers Hollywood

Clothing storeLos Angeles, CA
Fishbone
A place I could always count on to pick up gear is Posers Hollywood.  Open since 1985, They were one of the only places to get Doc Martins before they were mainstream.  Still the best collection of DM’s, creepers and Fred Perry’s.. This is the spot...

Jon & Vinny's

ItalianLos Angeles, CA
Fishbone
Simple Italian, done SO well.  Get the garlic bread, get the cacio e pepe, let someone else pick the wine. It's loud, it's packed, and you won't want to leave.

Father's Office

GastropubLos Angeles, CA
Fishbone
Some say best burger in Los Angles...hard to disagree.  The “Office Burger” is award-winning with a strict “no-ketchup” policy.   Love this spot.

Harold and Belle's Creole Restaurant

Fishbone
When you need some southern hospitality, Harold And Belle's Creole Restaurant for the W.  You can rock some fried oysters, shrimp and crawfish etouffee, catfish, jambalaya, and fried seafood. Make sure you come ready to eat and save room for bread pudding or cobbler.

Mamie

ItalianWest Hollywood, CA
Fishbone
Mamie on Santa Monica is my go-to when I need to reset. The schiacciata bread is baked fresh every two hours. Get the Viale di Parma — prosciutto, fig jam, gorgonzola, pistachios. Perfection!

Houston's Restaurant

AmericanPasadena, CA

I've been coming here for years. Dark booths, perfect ribs, and that crispy chicken sandwich...  Nothing better.  This place always hits!

An LA staple on Sundays and place to load up on fresh vegetables, fruit and homemade delicacies like hummus, salsas and chips… Just a great place to wander around...

Los Angeles can be overwhelming, even when you know it well.  We all need some peace and tranquility once in a while.

Apollonia's Pizzeria

PizzaLos Angeles, CA
Fishbone
When there’s a line, it’s either hipster or good… this pizza is damn good.  Worth the wait for sure.  Thin NY style pizza.  Get a pie or get a slice… Mayor's Mistress and the Acapulco Gold are recommended...

Griffith Observatory

Iconic Observatory ViewsLos Angeles, CA

A must see spot, one of the true historical landmarks of LA.   You can hike or drive there, and it's free to visit.  Great views of Los Angeles and a location for so many classic films, like Rebel Without a Cause, the Terminator, and La La Land.
